Study group — Earth and the Collective

A study group meeting outdoors

What happens to thought when it touches the ground?

Ruderal’s first Study Group starts with the Earth and the collective– not as themes, but as conditions. Grounds that we inherit, disturb, inhabit, and build together. Across 3 months, we will read, watch, listen, research, experiment. We will move through histories, artistic practices, cosmologies, territories and forms of collective life. What can Indigenous and quilombola cosmologies, alongside other practices of living otherwise across territories, unsettle in our ideas of land, collectivity, and life? What practices in Switzerland still hold a cosmological relation to territory? What forms of knowledge persist outside the separation of human and land, individual and collective, thought and action? We are interested in knowledge that is situated, embodied, ancestral, vegetal, porous. Knowledge that does not stand outside its object. Knowledge with dirt under its nails. The Study Group is a temporary collective: a place to read together, think in public, follow questions sideways, and test what thought can do when it is shared. Reading may become research. Research may become gesture. Gesture may become action. How do we think together without thinking alike? What might the Earth ask of our ways of being collective? What forms of life become imaginable when the ground is no longer background?Ruderal invites participants to join its first online Study Group: a temporary ecology for reading, research, exchange, experimentation, and collective action. Not a curriculum, but a ground for thinking together.
